An antihero/antiheroine is a main character designed to have no heroic virtues or qualities - a regular person who blurs the line between hero and villain.

Flat characters are two-dimensional, in that they are relatively uncomplicated and do not change throughout the course of a work. By contrast, round characters are complex and undergo development, sometimes sufficiently to surprise the reader.

Stock characters are based on a common literary or social stereotype, and rely on cultural types or names for their personality, manner of speech, and other characteristics. Popular in genre fiction: country bumpkin, whore with a heart of gold, crazy scientist, etc.

A character arc is the status of the character as it unfolds throughout the story. Characters begin the story with a certain viewpoint and, through events in the story, that viewpoint changes. A character arc usually (though not always) only affects the main character in a story.
