The origins of the Danish language
Danish developed from Old Norse during the Middle Ages, which lasted from the 5th to the 15th century. Old Danish appeared around 800 AD and transformed into Modern Danish in 1525. Danish became a popular literary language after the Protestant Reformation in 1536. It started to be used for religious purposes. At that time, the Danish language started differentiating from Norwegian and Swedish. The Rhyming Chronicle is the first book in Danish that was printed. Modern Danish has many similarities with the other Scandinavian languages in morphology and phonology. Many of the modern Danish words were borrowed from English, mainly Danish words that relate to journalism or technology. There are 3 main dialects of modern Danish: Jutlandic, Island Danish, and the Eastern Danish. Learning Danish words for professional and academic purposes is a great idea since Denmark has great political and economic power and many opportunities to propose. It is spoken by over 5 million people which means that if you will learn Danish words and Danish pronunciation, you will be able to make a lot of new social contacts.
